Being an advocate for a healthy lifestyle is not an easy journey. As technology becomes smarter and life seems easier, getting fit can be a tiring routine. However, there is a good slice of the pie showing a percentage of people around the world who are devoted to healthy living giving us the impression that fitness is ‘in’.

According to the latest statistics of the World Health Organization in 2014, more than 1.9 billion or 39% of adults aged 18 years and older were overweight which comprises 38% of men and 40% of women. The worldwide prevalence of obesity more than doubled between 1980 and 2014. The global fitness industry trend in past years shows increasing marks on the graph. Nevertheless, the overweight population is somehow in search of the best appetite for workout, exercise, and weight control.

Now, here’s the total “I’ll drink to that!” experience.

Tea and Metabolism

Did you know that drinking tea can help you shed the extra pounds? Indeed, tea is considered to be one of the healthiest beverages on the planet. After water, tea is the most widely consumed drink across all ages, and the interesting part of the story is that drinking tea is far more than just an ordinary sip; it offers us the widest scope of health benefits including fighting obesity and encouraging weight loss.

Researchers are delighted to know more on how beneficial tea is to our metabolism. It is loaded with nutrients that have prevailing effects on the body. Scientists have shown that tea contains high levels of compounds that combat the absorption of fat.

Among other beverages for weight loss, green tea is one on the top spot, as it is the least processed which further signifies that it has a higher content of polyphenols, which is widely known as ‘catechins’, one of the active ingredients known to aid obesity. Scientifically, they are believed to thwart the buildup of body fat as well as increasing body temperature so you will burn more calories. Green tea also has caffeine content. Caffeine is typically found in various types of beverages on the market, not only in coffee but also in energy drinks, cola, chocolate, and tea. For quite some time, it was believed that tea contains more caffeine than coffee. There were studies conducted linking caffeine and weight loss which said that caffeine helps your body burn both calories and fat. According to the Office of Dietary Supplements, you can burn 9 extra calories for every 100 milligrams of caffeine you drink.

Though our body is influenced by factors such as lifestyle and the work of genetics, it seems that shifting those pounds can be as easy as drinking a cup of tea. Boiling up that tea is as fun as getting fit. However, it is encouraged that we take care of ourselves by being proactive and having a healthy diet.
